3. The Vertical Pallet Garden

If you have a small space or an ugly fence, go vertical. Pallets are often free (check local hardware stores or warehouses) and make excellent planters.

  • The Build: Staple landscape fabric to the back and bottom of the pallet, fill with soil, and plant herbs or succulents in the slats.
  • The Aesthetic: Lean it against a wall or mount it securely. A coat of white wash or cedar stain makes it look like a designer piece.
