6. Lard and Seed “Suet” Blocks

Suet is a high-fat energy source that birds love, especially in cooler weather.

  • How to Make: Melt lard or solid vegetable shortening in a pan and stir in a generous amount of birdseed and dried fruit. Pour the mixture into a plastic container or mold and let it solidify in the fridge. Once set, pop it out and place it in a wire mesh feeder.
  • Things Needed: Lard or vegetable shortening, birdseed, dried cranberries, plastic molds or small containers, wire mesh cage (optional).
