7. A Promise Jar Filled With Handwritten Notes

7

A promise jar is exactly what it sounds like: a glass jar filled with small notes, each one a promise, a memory, a future plan. It’s a gift that keeps giving because she can pull one out whenever she needs a reminder.

Write between 30 and 100 notes, depending on how much you want to fill the jar. Mix types. Some are promises (“I will always drive when you’re tired”). Some are memories (“The night we got lost in Lisbon”). Some are future plans (“A trip to see the northern lights in 2027”). Some are small and silly (“I will learn to make your grandmother’s soup”). The mix is what makes it feel like a real collection, not a polished project.

Use a glass jar with a cork or a small wooden lid. Fold the notes so they fit, and consider using a mix of paper colors and types for texture. Add a small label with a one-line instruction: “Open when you need to remember.”

Time: 4–8 hours of writing, depending on quantity
Budget: $10–$30 for jar and paper
Difficulty: easy, time-intensive
