6. Textured French Knot Meadow

The French knot is one of the most popular and beloved stitches in hand embroidery. While it can take a few practice tries to master the tension, once you get the hang of wrapping the thread around your needle, it becomes incredibly addictive. A French knot meadow project is the perfect way to practice this stitch while creating a rich, highly textured landscape.
For this project, you will fill the bottom half of your hoop with a dense cluster of colorful French knots, resembling a field of blooming wildflowers. Use different shades of pink, purple, yellow, and blue floss, varying the thickness of your thread by using more or fewer strands. To anchor the flowers, use simple straight vertical stitches in green to represent grass stems. The top half of the hoop can be left completely blank to represent the sky, creating a beautiful contrast between the dense, bumpy texture of the meadow and the clean, flat background fabric.
