8. Creative Negative Space Monogram

Negative space embroidery is a clever technique where you leave the main subject of your design completely blank and stitch heavily around it. This creates a striking silhouette effect. A monogram is the perfect subject for this technique, making it a wonderful customized baby shower or housewarming gift.
To begin, trace a large, bold capital letter in the center of your fabric. Instead of filling the inside of the letter, you will stitch a dense border of flowers, leaves, and abstract dots all around the outside edge of the letter, radiating outward. Use a mix of lazy daisies, French knots, and woven wheel roses to create a lush, decorative frame that clearly defines the boundaries of the blank letter. When you step back, the unstitched fabric inside the letter will stand out beautifully against the colorful, highly textured border, creating an elegant and professional-looking monogram.
