2. Custom Throw Pillow Covers

2

Throw pillows are the easiest way to swap out a room’s mood, and Cricut makes it possible to create designer-looking covers without the designer price tag. You can cut heat transfer vinyl designs and press them onto plain pillow covers for a polished, custom look.

Gather a solid-colored cotton or canvas pillow cover, heat transfer vinyl in a coordinating shade, a Cricut cutting mat, an iron or heat press, parchment paper, and a pillow insert. Design your shape, phrase, or monogram in Cricut Design Space, mirror the image, and cut. Weed the negative space, position the vinyl on the pillow cover with parchment paper on top, and press for about 30 seconds.

Plan on roughly 45 minutes from start to finish. This project is best for those comfortable with a hot iron but is still very approachable. Mistakes usually come from skipping the parchment paper, which protects both the vinyl and the fabric. A fun twist is to mix metallic HTV with a soft linen pillow for a glam touch, or use a sage green on cream cotton for a calm, organic feel.
