7. Canvas Wall Art with Mixed Textures

7

Canvas projects don’t have to stop at a single quote. By layering paint, vinyl, and texture, you can create wall art that looks like it came from a boutique. Try a canvas with a painted background, a vinyl phrase, and small embellishments like dried flowers or fabric bows.

For this project, gather a stretched canvas, acrylic paint, adhesive vinyl for the lettering, optional fabric or ribbon accents, and adhesive gems or buttons. Paint your canvas in a base color, let it dry completely, then apply your vinyl design. Glue any embellishments around the design to create a layered effect.

Budget around 90 minutes including drying. This one leans toward intermediate because of the layering, but the steps are very straightforward. A common mistake is applying vinyl to wet paint, which causes bubbling, so always let your base coat cure fully. Hang it in a hallway or use it as a focal point above a bed.
