12. Ghostly Window Silhouettes

Window silhouettes are the decoration your whole street sees — white shapes on dark glass, backlit from inside. Ghosts, cats, and witches all read perfectly from the sidewalk.
Cut shapes from poster board, tape them inside the glass, and leave a lamp on behind. Your house becomes the neighborhood’s spooky landmark for the price of poster board.
What You’ll Need
- White poster board or large paper
- Silhouette templates (ghost, cat, witch, haunted house)
- Scissors or craft knife
- Painter’s tape
- A lamp or bright light to place behind the window
How to Make
- Trace silhouette templates onto poster board and cut them out.
- Tape the shapes to the inside of a street-facing window.
- Position a lamp a few feet behind the window, aimed at the glass.
- Turn off other nearby lights so the silhouettes pop.
- Step outside after dark to check the effect and adjust.
