2. Apothecary Potion Bottles

Vintage-style apothecary potion bottles with colored liquids on a dark wooden table

Nothing says Halloween like a shelf of mysterious glowing potions. Odd-shaped dollar store bottles, bud vases, and spice jars transform into creepy-cute apothecary decor with just paint and water.

Cluster them on a tray with faux spiderwebs for an instant mad-scientist vignette — perfect on a mantel, entryway table, or party bar backdrop.

What You’ll Need

  • Assorted small glass bottles and vases
  • Acrylic paint in green, purple, orange, and black
  • Cork stoppers or wine corks
  • Twine or raffia
  • Printable or hand-drawn potion labels
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint (optional)

How to Make

  1. Wash and dry all bottles thoroughly.
  2. Fill each about three-quarters full with water tinted with a few drops of acrylic paint.
  3. Press a cork into the top and wrap twine around the neck.
  4. Glue on a potion label — “Witch’s Brew,” “Bat Wings,” “Zombie Tonic.”
  5. Arrange on a tray; add a drop of glow paint to one or two for a nighttime surprise.
