4. Felt Ghost Garland

White felt ghost garland strung across a fireplace mantel with pumpkins

This garland looks store-bought but takes under an hour with zero sewing. Soft felt ghosts on twine look charming across a mantel, window, or dessert table.

Cut ghosts in two sizes and let kids draw the faces — no two will match, and that is the charm. It stores flat, so you can reuse it for years.

What You’ll Need

  • White felt sheets (about 6)
  • Twine or black ribbon
  • Black permanent marker
  • Scissors and a ghost template (draw your own)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Polyester stuffing (optional, for puffy ghosts)

How to Make

  1. Trace and cut 10-12 ghost shapes from the felt.
  2. Draw simple faces with the marker — ovals for eyes, an “o” for the mouth.
  3. Cut a length of twine to fit your mantel or window.
  4. Glue the top of each ghost to the twine, spacing them 3-4 inches apart.
  5. Hang and fluff; add a tiny stuffing pouch behind every other ghost for dimension.
