4. Glitter Letter Toppers

4

Spelling out “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” or a name in glittery letters across the cupcake tray is one of the most photogenic party tricks around. Glitter letter toppers look celebratory, photograph beautifully, and feel a little glamorous without being over the top.

For this project, you’ll need wooden or cardboard letters from a craft store, glitter in your party color, a foam brush, and white glue or Mod Podge. Paint a thin coat of glue onto the front and sides of each letter, then sprinkle glitter generously over a paper plate. Tap off the excess and let them dry upright for about 20 minutes.

Once dry, attach each letter to a toothpick using a dot of hot glue on the back. If you want extra sparkle, finish with a light spray of clear acrylic sealer, which also keeps glitter from shedding onto the frosting.

This project takes around an hour including drying time for a full alphabet. Difficulty is easy, and the cost is very friendly, usually under five dollars for the whole batch. Choose colors that match your party palette: rose gold for a feminine birthday, bright primary glitter for a kid’s party, or black and gold for a milestone celebration.

A common mistake is using too much glue, which makes the letters look cloudy instead of sparkly. Thin, even coats always win.
