9. Chocolate-Dipped Treat Toppers

Chocolate-dipped toppers combine decoration and dessert in one. Pretzels, strawberries, marshmallows, cookies, and dried fruit all work beautifully when dipped in chocolate and propped up on a stick. They add height, texture, and a bit of indulgence to each cupcake.
Melt a cup of chocolate chips in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring between each. Hold a pretzel (or your chosen treat) by one end, dip the other two-thirds into the chocolate, and let the excess drip off. Place on parchment paper to set, then attach to a short skewer or lollipop stick with a dab of melted chocolate once firm.
For extra flair, sprinkle the wet chocolate with crushed nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or crushed freeze-dried fruit before it sets. Sea salt on dark chocolate is also a crowd favorite.
This project takes about 30 minutes including setting time, and difficulty is easy. Budget is around eight to twelve dollars for a full batch, depending on your chocolate choice. Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and snap, and avoid chocolate chips labeled “waxy” as they don’t melt as smoothly.
One small note: chocolate-dipped toppers should be added to cupcakes just before serving, as moisture from the frosting can make the chocolate weep.
