6. Fabric Flower Toppers

6

Fabric flowers bring a soft, romantic, almost vintage feel to cupcakes. They’re especially lovely for milestone birthdays, garden parties, baby showers turned birthday celebrations, or any event with a soft pastel palette. Unlike paper flowers, fabric versions can be saved and reused, which makes them a thoughtful party favor in addition to a topper.

You’ll need small scraps of cotton, linen, or felt in your chosen colors, scissors, a hot glue gun, and wooden skewers cut down to about 3 inches. Cut five to seven circles of fabric in slightly different sizes, then layer them and pinch the centers together. Add a dot of hot glue at the base to hold the shape.

For a fuller flower, gently fray the edges of each circle with your fingers before layering. The frayed edges create a soft, petal-like effect that looks lovely on top of swirled buttercream.

This project takes about 5 minutes per flower, so a dozen toppers will run you roughly an hour. Difficulty is easy, and even children can help with the cutting and layering. Budget is very friendly if you have fabric scraps on hand, otherwise expect to spend around ten dollars for enough fabric to make 30+ flowers.

For a special touch, add a small button or bead to the center of each flower. Just be sure to let guests know if buttons are attached, especially if you have little ones running around.
