8. Wood Slice Toppers

8

Wood slice toppers bring a rustic, outdoorsy vibe to birthday parties and work especially well for woodland themes, camping birthdays, fall celebrations, and farmhouse-style gatherings. They’re also sturdy enough to write on, making them a great canvas for names, ages, or short messages.

You’ll need small wood slices (about 1.5 to 2 inches across), which are available at most craft stores in bulk bags. Paint or write on them with a fine-tip paint pen, then attach each slice to a short skewer using hot glue. For a more polished look, lightly sand the surface before painting.

You can also leave the wood natural and add a stamped image instead. A small initial stamp in the corner looks especially elegant for milestone birthdays.

Plan about 20 to 30 minutes for a dozen toppers, including paint drying time. Difficulty is easy, and the cost is very low, usually under ten dollars for enough slices to make 30+ toppers.

💡 Pro Tip: If you’re writing names on each topper, do it in advance and let them dry completely. Trying to write on wood slices while frosting cupcakes gets messy fast.
